Abstract

Frozen shoulder is an inflammatory condition where the connective tissue around the shoulder joint thickens and tightens, characterized by shoulder stiffness, pain, and a loss of maximal mobility. Water Shiatsu is a form of aquatic therapy that combines elements of shiatsu massage with gentle movements in warm water. The therapy techniques applied include massage at specific points, spiraling, trusting, deep breathing, and neck and shoulder stretching. This study aims to assess the effect of water shiatsu on the range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder joint in patients with frozen shoulder. The research uses a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population for this study consists of clients receiving therapy at Java Sporties Buana Bandung. The sampling technique employed is purposive sampling with inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a sample of 7 participants who met the criteria. The instrument used to measure the range of motion of the shoulder joint is a goniometer. The data analysis technique used is the Paired Sample T-test to determine if there is an effect of the water shiatsu method on improving shoulder range of motion (ROM). The results of the study show a significant effect of water shiatsu on the shoulder range of motion in patients with frozen shoulder, with improvements observed in shoulder movements including flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, external rotation, and internal rotation.
