Generative AI for Authors
A summary of authors’ responsibilities when using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies to prepare manuscripts or conduct research.
Important: This page summarizes Jurnal Meta-Yuridis’ policy on the use of AI by authors. It should be read together with the full Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy of Jurnal Meta-Yuridis. If there is any inconsistency, the full policy prevails. [link to the full policy]
1. Core Principles
-
Authors remain fully responsible for all content in their manuscripts. The use of AI does not transfer responsibility to an AI system.
-
Authors must critically assess and independently verify all AI-generated output.
-
AI must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, findings, references, or sources, or to facilitate plagiarism.
-
Confidential or unpublished information and personal data must not be entered into external AI systems in ways that compromise confidentiality, privacy, or intellectual property.
2. Permitted Uses
Authors may responsibly use GenAI or AI-assisted tools for purposes such as:
-
improving grammar, spelling, language, clarity, and readability;
-
translating text;
-
organizing or structuring content and developing ideas;
-
summarizing literature or other materials; and
-
obtaining programming assistance or support with data analysis.
AI tools must not replace authors’ own intellectual contribution, critical thinking, analysis, interpretation, or scholarly judgment.
3. AI Cannot Be an Author
GenAI systems and AI-assisted tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship requires a human who can take responsibility for the work, approve the final version and its submission, and respond to questions about the work. An AI tool may be acknowledged where appropriate, but such acknowledgment does not make it an author.
4. Required Declaration of Generative AI Use
Every manuscript submitted to Jurnal Meta-Yuridis must include a Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Use, placed immediately before the References section, whether or not AI was used. Authors must also provide this declaration in the manuscript submission system.
If AI was not used
The authors declare that no generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies were used in preparing this manuscript or conducting the research reported in this article.
If AI was used
In preparing this manuscript, the authors used [name of tool or service] for [describe the purpose and nature of the use]. The authors reviewed and verified the AI-assisted output, made any necessary revisions, and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of the manuscript.
Authors must specifically identify the tool if AI was used to substantially generate or rewrite text; create or alter images, tables, or illustrations; translate a substantial portion of the manuscript; generate analytical or interpretive content; generate, select, or modify references; or generate code incorporated into the research or manuscript.
Routine spelling and grammar corrections do not require a detailed explanation. However, the declaration of AI use is still required.
5. AI in the Research Process
The use of AI as a research instrument, analytical tool, experimental system, or subject of study is not prohibited. If AI forms part of the research methodology, authors must describe its use in the Method section, including the tool or model name, version or access date, provider, and how it was used.
6. Images, Illustrations, and Other Content
AI-generated or AI-altered content must not distort research evidence, fabricate findings, create misleading research images, conceal data manipulation, infringe intellectual property rights, or mislead readers about the content’s origin. AI-generated illustrations must be disclosed. AI-assisted image processing that affects research findings must be explained in the manuscript.
7. References and Citations
Authors are responsible for the existence and accuracy of every reference. References suggested or modified by AI must be checked against the original sources. This includes legal sources such as legislation, court decisions, and other primary materials. Fabricated publications, nonexistent authors or DOIs, inaccurate bibliographic details, and false citations must not be included.
8. Violations
Failure to provide the required declaration, making a false declaration, fabricating data or references, or misleadingly presenting AI-generated content may be treated as a breach of research or publication integrity. Such cases will be handled in accordance with Jurnal Meta-Yuridis’ publication ethics procedures.
